How to make a homemade mask

Masks are here to stay for a long time and that is why more and more people are choosing to create their own fabric models. This allows them to recycle cotton T-shirt fabrics that they no longer use and, at the same time, have as many as they need to vary and wash all together. And it is that making a mask at home is very simple and they have no complications.

You only need cotton cloth, baking paper for the filter, thread and round elastic rubber. If you have a sewing machine the work will be very fast but even without it you can also make your masks and make them look very nice.

The first thing you have to decide is which style of mask you prefer. The folding ones have the advantage that they adapt very well to all faces and allow air to enter from the sides. The masks higher in the nose area and with a more anatomical shape are much more beautiful and for many people more comfortable because they do not bother the eyes.

If you are not sure which model is better, you can always sew one face and test before continuing to work with them. Of both models you can download templates on the Internet in different sizes, for children and adults. Download the model, cut it out on paper and test it on the face to know if it is your size.

Once you have the template, cut the fabric. Remember that the masks must have two layers to be able to put a filter in between and be safer. The inner layer may be slightly smaller than the outer layer to make the edge inward. It is also important that you leave an opening, usually on one side, to allow you to insert and remove the filters.

Sew the mask and place the rubber bands on the sides so that they reach your ears comfortably and do not squeeze you. Once the mask is sewn, cut the filter out of the baking paper or a non-woven fabric. Wash the mask and once dry, insert the filter. These fabric or oven paper filters resist up to five washes.

Every day you should wash your mask with water with a few drops of diluted bleach, leaving it to soak for a long time or with a suitable disinfecting product. The water must be very hot, over 60 degrees. Thus, you will be protected and you will protect others.
